I hate it when bloggers I follow just up and stop posting. It leaves a little hole in my life where the narrative of their life belongs.
And when you write a blog, you naturally hold the narrative of it in your head—what you’ve said, what you want to say. So if you don’t say anything for a while, sometimes it’s hard to find your voice again.
Lately, I’ve thought a lot about the narrative of my blog. Even though I’ve been posting sporadically, I haven’t really said anything for a long time—pretty much since back when I quit using words.
Words and I had a little tussle this winter, and they hightailed it the hell out of Dodge for a while. Since words have always been my friends, I pretended that my feelings weren’t hurt and played with the new kid in town, the camera. And I painted the kitchen. I painted the kitchen a few times.
But, eventually, the words missed me as much as I missed them and they finally began slinking back, tail between legs. I lovingly pat each one on the head as they straggle in, so they don’t go away again.
The funny thing is, even without words, I still talked to you in my head. Yeah, I know it’s really just me talking to myself, but now I think of it as talking to you.
So, as spring awakens, The Sorry Gardener is crawling out of bed, too. No more Snooze button. There may not be an abundance of words in every post, since we’re still patching things up. But in a pinch, I have all of those garden photos piling up—and they say something too, in their own wordless way.
See you soon.
In the meantime, check out the other Awakening photos at Gardening Gone Wild.

Sure have missed your words Kelly! You have your own unique and witty voice. Welcome back!
Thanks, Carol. Your posts on the artistic process have been a nice sanity check for me. One tile at a time, baby.
I’ve missed you too. I was so glad when I got an e-mail from the sorry gardner.
I knew you were just short of resorting to harassing phone calls. LOL

I think I heard you — a little bit. I’m glad your words are back and I’m looking forward to your posts.

HOORAH!!! Some terrific news to brighten up the gloom brought about by politics du jour. I’m always blessed with a smile (more often than not a laugh or guffaw) when I see your beautiful photos and read your musings so take heart, Kelly, and keep ‘em coming!! You make the world a brighter place for all of us…
Kelly, We love it when you use your words. And your camera, too. This shot looks particularly effective against the dark background.
You can pat these words on the head or not because they are not going away. Your words are sunshine your photos touchable and I’m pretty darn sure your kitchen looks great !
Words are a tricky media. I respect those who take the chance to use them.
We love your words and are thrilled with your pictures..never stop writing, but do understand a small break can bring a “renewal”… We’re still waiting for you to tell us that a BOOK in in the works!!! Spring is finally on the way to Indiana.
Oh, I totally agree! A book penned by you would be most excellent!!
Thank you for your votes of confidence, but the realities of getting a book published are pretty harsh. For now, I’m trying to keep those thoughts vewwy quiet (like I’m hunting wabbit) so I don’t get ahead of myself and scare off the words again.
Well, that’s a very artistic touch to your photo submission. Nicely done.
I am glad you found me so I could find you….love your photo. I too have been sporatic here as of late. Life is just getting in the way of my blogging..of all the nerve!! Hoping to become more in touch with my electronic friends in the coming days.
