As a Virginian, I don't take to change well and am glad I am still 8a. I did hear a nice piece about the new map on NPR this weekend and they mentioned that the last one included climate data from the 1970's which they said was notoriously cold. So perhaps this isn't entirely climate change and may reflect a more normal situation. At least I can hope that is so.

I never got over the disappointed realization, at or around puberty, that my cup size wouldn't ever be equivalent to Barbie's.

From what I can tell about the new USDA map, some of the zone shifts are less about climate change, and more about more efficient topographical mapping and data collection. Fortunately, Canada hasn't invested in a new zone map, so I'm as zoned out or in as I ever was.

Cheers, Kelly!

Yeah, I was kind of intentionally ignoring the global warming issues. I have a couple of penstemons that look as good as they did in August (and they usually get zapped during winter).

Yes, I would also love to know more about gardening and my beautiful state. But since we've already established that my gardening skills are lacking, and I only leave the house once a week (to go to the grocery store), I think we're going to have to leave that kind of info to some other blog. LOL

Hahaha...so funny! Yeah, I found out I'm actually in 9a now (most of Portland is 8b). It definitely won't change what I plant...although it does worry me a little...especially after this past winter, which was so mild I have many plants that never really went dormant. Makes me worry a little about what the lack of vernalization means in the long-term.

I love how you've expanded your blog and added a wider range of information. As I said once, many people would love to know more about gardening and about your beautiful State.

Love your last two blogs!
